In the fall of 2018 the Romanian Government has promoted several actions in order to make the travel market in Romania more attractive. The first measure adopted is: starting November 1st a reduced 5% VAT will be applied to services such as hosting in hotel rooms or units with similar function, renting camping ground, restaurant units and catering services, sport activities. Serving alcohol, except beer, is not included in the new tax scheme. The second change envisions the spa sector, through eliminating taxation on the use of thermal and natural mineral waters used for public consumption (such as baths) or at public springs.
