BIERTAN: 9 out of 22
The medieval village of Biertan, located in Sibiu County in Transilvania – Romania was ranked no. 9 by Cosmopolitan in the Top 22 „Unreal Destinations That Will Make You Want to Take a Gap Year”. This is how the American editors described the place: „Biertan seriously looks like a town from a Disney movie, but if you are looking for even more storybook scenes, go check out the historical (and incredibly beautiful) fortified church in town.”
Dating back to the year 1224 Biertan is one of the first saxon settlements in Transilvania. The citadel combines the gothic style with Renaissance traces. Its core is formed by a church, in the line of those in Vienna and Nurnberg , with an amvo sculpted in stone in 1500 by Ulrich from Brașov. The church is surrounded by three defence walls, showcasing impressive towers and medieval bastions. The village itself counts with about 1000 visitors.

The Hilton international chain ”captures” a new property for the DoubleTree by Hilton family. Latest information indicates the City Plaza 5 stars in Cluj-Napoca. The hotel has five floors: 85 rooms and apartments, restaurants, conference halls, a health centre with pool, fitness area, Jacuzzi and a Finish sauna. The unit is operated by 80 employees.
„This year the City Plaza started a general renovation project, undergoing several steps. The works for the new bar and conference area will not affect the events already scheduled to take place here“– said Dafina Suciu, marketing manager at City Plaza. The hotel is a property of Laurențiu Russo.
The Most Beautiful Villages of Romania Association (AFSR) in a partnership with the Spanish Asociación de Mediadores Interculturales Rumanos (QUORUM) promote Romania in Barcelona, through the multimedia it platform Play Romania – Discover the treasures of Romania. The event took place in August at the Transilvania Restaurant in Barcelona, when new Smartphone aps where launched, in order to sustain the travel and cultural image of Romania. Play Romania aps are free of charge and available on Google Play and App Store.
Also, following the agreement that the two associations signed in 2014, the Romanian delegation (formed by representatives of the cities of Arefu, Agigea, Râmnicu Vâlcea, and Bacau county) visited Morella and Peniscola in Spain. ”There have been a lot of talks in order to identify good projects for local development. A spanish delegation will visit Romania in October” – said Marghiol Nicolae, executive president of AFSR.
OLĂNEȘTI: a plus of 5,5 milion euros
This summer opened in Baile Olanesti resort the largest wellness centre of the region. The construction of TISA Spa Resort had started in 2014, was cofinanced with euroepan funds and is a project of about 5,5 milion euros. The wellness centre includes swimming pools, special pools for kids to play in, open-air Jacuzzi pools, saunas, waterpark area. In addition to this one can enjoy hammam, steam baths, salina, a special herbal spa Casa Naturii, fitness room Technogym, relax areas, several bars, terraces and an array of spa treatments.
The Rezidor Group, represented in Bucharest by two of its brands – Radisson Blu and Park Inn by Radisson -, announced its expansion on the local Romanian market, in cities with over 200.000 inhabitants. The first one is Brasov in Transilvania. Arno Schwalie, area vice president for South and Central Europe of Rezidor Hotel Group said „Romania is an important market for the Rezidor group, as we see more and more business relations with countries such as Austria and Germany. I believe that the potential of provincial cities is raising and I am talking here about urban hubs such as Brasov, Cluj-Napoca, Sibiu, Constanta, Timisoara, Craiova or Arad”.
According to the information on the market the investment will be undertaken by the Romanian Tresor Com, owned by Neamtu family in Brasov. The new 5 stars Radisson Blu will show up across the City Hall of Brasov.
At the 3rd part of Parachute World Cup Series 2016, that took place in August in Belluno – Italy, Steliana Popa – representing the Romanian Air Club – won the 5th place in the women-seniors category. This result placed her 2nd in the general ranking, after the first 3 rounds of the competitions. Steliana is a multiple national champion for juniors and seniors. She finished 2nd in the 2015 Parachute World Cup Series. World Cup Series has six parts/rounds and is a competiotion organized by the International Aeronautical Federation.
During this time, at the 12th edition of the World Acrobatics Championship in Radom – Poland, the Romanian team entered the competition with an Advanced Class plane. The team secured the 5th place after France, USA, Russia and Ukrain, but ahead of teams with great experience such as Poland, UK and Germany. For individual performances the best ranked romanian sportiv was Andrei-Mihai Şerbu (no. 4) that obtained the best position ever obtained by a Romanian pilot in such competitions.
Also in August the Romanian gliders participated in the 34th edition of the
World Gliding Championship, taking place in Pociunai – Lithuania. The Andreas Kessler – Fernanda Jurcă team finished the 7 proofs ranked 8 out of 22 participating teams.
