„WILD CARPATHIA” will go on

The Ministry of Regional Development and Tourism (MDRT) wants collaboration with Travel Channel in order to continue the “Wild Carpathia” documentary series – shows a press release of MDRT. The negotiations where carried out at World Travel Market in London 2012. Several other subjects came on, such as working with CNN to diversify the Romanian promotion strategy, aiming at the next edition of George Enescu Festival or in order to highlight Bucharest as a city-break destination. Eurosport could be interested in the winter games of the youth FOTE 2013 to be organized in Romania.
Another interesting plan is a united promotion campaign of Romania and Bulgaria for the Danube River region, part of the UE strategy. Ivo Marinov, one of the leaders of the Ministry of Economy, Energy and Tourism in Bulgaria, underlined the importance of a new product for the area that could attract tourism from far away destinations.

ITS makes a Romania special!

The German tour operator ITS Reisen said that for 2013 will create a special brochure in order to promote more Romanian destinations and travel products. The highlights seem to be the Danube Delta, the cultural trips and the active and outdoor tourism.
The catalogue will be distributed in Germany, Austria and Switzerland in all the 2.500 agencies that sell the ITS products. România will continue to be also in the “City Trips” catalogue of the touroperator, with its two destinations: Bucharest and Sibiu.
ITS Reisen together with Jahn Reisen, Tjaereborg, ADAC Reisen, LTUplus, DERTOUR and Meiers Weltreisen is a part of the tourism section of REWE. The group counts with over 2500 travel agencies to sell its products on various platforms.

5 Excellencee Awards at HTB 2012

Marian Constantinescu, the writer and editor of TRAVELLER MAGAZIN, received the Lifetime Achivement Reward for his contribution in promoting Romanian tourism. He was one of the five personalities awarded at the Hospitality Trends Bucharest 2012 Gala – an event organized by Trend Hospitality Consulting & Management in a partnership with INTEHL – Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship of École hôtelière de Lausanne.
“This is the 20th distinction that marks our work as tourism editors. My thanks to the professionals of Trend Hospitality and their leader Tinu Sebeşanu” – said Marian Constantinescu, during his speech. The other awarded specialists where: Hotelier of the Year – Daniela Eşanu, general director of Alpin hotel in Poiana Brasov – for the over 30 years work in the hospitality industry; Excellence in Hospitality Education – Puiu Nistoreanu (teacher in the Academy of Economic Studies in Bucharest); Best New Hotel – DoubleTree by Hilton Oradea; Best New Restaurant – Diplomat in Bucharest.

Remember Henri Coandă

About 40 years ago died a great Romanian scientist, Henri Coandă. Bucharest Airports (CNAB) decided to pay a tribute and organize an event in order to remind to the public the work and life of Coandă, all dedicated to aeronautics.
Henri Coandă (1886 – 1972) was an aerodynamics pioneer. He built an experimental aircraft, the Coandă-1910, described in the mid-1950s as the world’s first jet. He invented a great number of devices, designed a „flying saucer” and discovered the Coandă Effect of fluid dynamics. Some of his inventions where used for landing „Apollo 11” and „Apollo 12”. Coandă was buried in Bellu historical cementery in Bucharest – Romania and the International Airport of the city, Otopeni, also wears his name.

eMAG went for tourism

The Eastern Europe on-line commerce leader opened a tourism section on its sales platform eMAG Marketplace. In a partnership with Paravion (online company), eMAG offers variours products, from city breaks, plane tickets, holyday packages or separate hotel bookings. “Our objective is to become number one on each segment that we offer through eMAG Marketplace. Regarding the tourism section our aim is to offer through eMAG the most attractive promotions for trips and plane tickets. Further on we think about creating out own charter flights for the special eMAG Turism packages” said Bogdan Axinia, Director eMAG Marketplace.

OUR INTERVIEW: CEZAR MUNTEANU: „I believe that we should modernize, regarding the mentality, to grow as a nation, in order to really gastronomy!”

The quote belongs to Chef Cezar, widely appreciated in Romania for his initiatives in gastronomy. Though only 39 Cezar Munteanu is backed by a complex biography. He started at 14 on the Romanian seaside and became a cook. He gaindes his name and fame abroad, working for the Embassy of Romania in Italy, then in USA, the for OSCE and UN missions in Vienna. He has been chef of the Embassy of Romania in USA (Washington DC) for over five years, being one of the highly praised Romanian chefs of the diplomatic world. Cezar cooked for various presidents, politicians, but also champions such as Nadia Comăneci. He also participates in several teaching and consultancy projects in Romania, Russia, Bulgaria etc. Cezar is Chef-Rotisseur of Baillage de Roumanie -Chaîne de Rotisseurs.

90 since the 1st flight

Air France and TAROM celebrated 90 years since the first flight being operated on the following route: Prague – Warsaw – Vienna – Budapest – Belgrade – Bucharest (Băneasa) – Istanbul. The flight had been made by The French-Romanian Navigation Company, the predecessor of TAROM and Air France.

In 1920 the Romanian diplomat Nicolae Titulescu and the French general Maurice Duval came with the idea of opening a flight from Paris to Bucharest. April 23rd, same year, the French count Pierre Claret de Fleurieu and the Romaian banker Aristide Blank founded The French-Romanian Aerial Navigation Company – the first passengers, cargo and mail, transcontinental carrier. CFRNA opened November 12th, 1922 the first passenger transcontinental aerial route: Paris -Strasbourg – Prague – Warsaw – Vienna – Budapest – Belgrade – Bucharest (Băneasa) – Istanbul. One year later, September 10th, 1923, the first regular international flight for passengers, operated during night time, came on. The CFRNA tradition is maintained today through Air France and TAROM, partners in SkyTeam Alliance.
