Excellence for Buzău County and Alba Iulia

Two new Romanian destinations where included in the EDEN patrimony, a project of the European Commission. Buzău County was named the best Romanian rural tourism destination while Alba Iulia got the distinction for tourism and the remaking of physical sites. In the last years other Romanian destinations got excellence prizes from the EC, such as: Horezu area (2008, for tourism and local patrimony), Apuseni Natural Park (2009, for tourism and protected areas) and Geoagiu – Băi (2010, for water and tourism).

The two new awarded destinations will have the opportunity to promote themselves in the Romanian stand of the Ministry of Tourism, at the Romexpo Tourism fair, 15 to18 November, 2012. The places will be included in the EDEN network. The EDEN ”European Destinations of Excellence” project was launched in 2006 by the European Commission and aims at the major places of the European tourism. TALEB RIFAI: „Green tourism gets more atractive!”

„The wetlands represent nowadays some of the most significant strong points of tourism. They attract millions of people every year. Due to a beneficial partnership with Ramsar, The World Tourism Organization (WTO) decided to efficiently promote tourism in these areas through strong planning policies, thus protecting the wetlands for the benefit of future generations. The accent on sustainable toursim reflects the wish of visitors to addopt more environment friendly kinds of tourism”. The declaration of Taleb Rifai, secretary general of WTO, was made in Bucharest at the 11th Ramsar Conference, regarding wetlands of international importance.
In 2011 the worldwide number of tourists reached 982 million and the estimations show a number of over 1 billion for this year, generating about 1 trillion dollars. Around half of the total number of visitors are attracted by wetlands and waters, especially coast areas.

3 prizes for Topoloveni

Sonimpex Serv Com, the producer of the famous Romanian plum jam and of the Topoloveni preserves, received three new prizes at the annual competition organized by the International Taste & Quality Institute in Brussels. The Huckleberry ecologic preserve, The Plum and sweet almonds jam and the Specific „cătină” Topoloveana preserve got the „Superior Taste Award 2012”. The products presented and tested during the contest got extremely good remarks from the international jury. The competition „Superior Taste Award”  is the Michelin of the natural foods.

The first Croatian – Romanian dictionary

For those of you that get ready to party on Croatian or Romanian beaches the C.H. Beck publishers – with over 1.100 edited books – offers the first Croatian – Romanian dictionary. The volume contains over 50.000 words in about 630 pages. Several fundamental language dictionaries have been used in achieving this work, signed by specialists like: R. Flora, H. Gămulescu, M. Jivcovici, M. Tomici, V. Putanec, J. Jernej and others. The dictionary is a useful tool for everybody doing business, traveling or only studying about both of the countries.

ERFURT – Romanian chefs think of medals

Thw 23rd Gastronomy Olimpics – IKA 2012 will take place October 6-9th at the Messe Erfurt. The competition takes place every four years and this year over 1.600 professionals and chefs from 50 countries will come in teams. The contests have as well over 300 individual participants. The Romanian teams already started the savoury training and wish for many valuable medals. Gabriela Berechet, preident of the Romanian Chefs Federation (FBR) said that the team has several multiple national and international champions: “The leader is Ioan Florescu, being followed by Cornelia Ghişoi (the only lady chef in Romania member of the WACS jury); Orlando Laurenţiu Zaharia (winner of the 2nd edition of the Golden Chef of Bucharest), Mihai Neacşu, Samuel Rus and Carmela Dragomir (gold and silver at the World Championship in Luxemburg), and Gabriela Berechet as president of FBR and manager of the team”.
At IKA 2012 we will be represented by two teams of cooks, the National of Juniors with chef Silviu Scornea, and the Regional -Bucureşti – FBR, led by Henrik Sebok (Executive Chef at Avalon Restaurant of the Howard Johnson Grand Plaza Bucharest).

“Frece Tricolori” at Bucharest International Air Show

The Bucureşti Băneasa Airport celebrated 100 years of flights! With this occasion the Embassy of Italy  in Romania organized a special evening at the residence of the embassador Mario Cospito. Among the guests one could have seen the members of the National Italian Acrobatic Patrol “Frecce Tricolori”, the pilots that impressed the public at the largest aerian show in Romania – Bucharest International Air Show. Several tourist attractions of the Friuli-Venezia Giulia area, home of the „frecce”, have been promoted with this occasion.unde activează aceasta.  The hosts of the evening where the Regional Tourism Agency and The National Italian Tourism Institute, and they explained that “this tradition of the aerial patrol was born on the Campoformido and Gorizia airports, at the beginning of the ’20s, the show containing nowadays around 20 acrobatic figures”.

What about the… crayfish festival?
Natura Parc, in Chinchiş, Brasov area, opened in 2010. Covering a surface of over 160 hectars it is considered to be the biggest sports and relax park in South Eastern Europe. August 15 -19 the parc hosted the first edition of a unique festival: The Crayfish Festival.
In July two lakes in Natura Parc have been populated with crayfish, the place getting transformed into the largest crustaceous farm in Romania. The Astacus Leptodactylus specie is renowned for its gorgeous taste and for its unique protein combination. The festival opened several contests such as “Greatest catch of the day”, “Tastiest dish” and “The Crayfish rally”. For the food lovers all over the world the hosts gave us the recipe of a platter for two: “boil one kilo of crayfish with dill and sprinkle with salt” – as simple as that and the taste is seducing, the price as well, about 7 euro. Medieval hotel in Alba Iulia

After several years of restoration works the Alba Iulia citadel in Trasilvania has a new five stars hotel. The former army building, 300 years old, belonging to the city hall, has been reshaped as a medieval style hotel by the company Grup Corint SA. According to the investor the works required over 4 million euro. As Dan Sabău, the manager of the group, said the hotel offers 22 functional rooms with a classic design. Starting September the  hotel will also offer Spa services, interior pool, fitness room and sauna. Conference rooms will be available and the hotel will eventually offer, at the end of investments, 36 rooms.
The historical building, a former military deposit in the Citadel of Alba Iulia, dates back to 1700’s. The citadel itself is considered to be the most important Vauban style fortification in Romania, its initial plans belonging to the italian architect Giovanni Morando Visconti.
