Is Neckermann staking on Bucharest?

The Thomas Cook Neckermann concern intends to promote Bucharest as city break destination during the summer. Besides catalogues, Neckermann intends to promote the Capital on outdoor and online supports in all countries where it has branches, among which Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, France, Great Britain, Austria, Switzerland, Poland, Czech and Hungary. For this promotion, a collaboration with the Romanian state would be appreciated provided that it may co-finance the project from European funds.

According to Karpaten Tourism
, the representative in Romania of the international concern, Bucharest is frequently visited mainly by business tourists. They do not come during summer, and the hotels remain almost unoccupied although the rates decrease during such period by 25-30%. Gheorghe Mărginean, president of Karpaten Tourism declared that the tourists coming in city breaks have ages up to 50 years and intend to spend more money in towns than tourists in circuits. In 2012, Neckermann carried out a pilot project, bringing in Bucharest for city break over 600 visitors. Marginean estimates that, with the beginning of promotion, the company will bring during a first year few thousands tourists in Capital, their number following to increase in the next years.
